2023 #AuthorsLoveTeachers Giveaway

Hello there, teachers and school librarians. This is for you – another #AuthorsLoveTeachers giveaway because we see you and appreciate you and want you to know that.
A giveaway on Twitter, in the grand scheme things, is not a big deal; I realize it’s a small gesture. But the authors here answered my call with enthusiasm. “Of course I’d love to help celebrate teachers!” There’s a lot of love here. Respect and admiration. Good wishes and gratitude.
Those of you who “know my story” know that, as a kid, I had teachers who changed the course of my life. I write to you today because of those people. Education was not just a career to them; it was a calling. And, nowadays, this calling to education is one heck of a hard job.
I’ve thought those teachers who saved me heroic since I was a sixth grader. In September of that year, I thought I was nothing. I was told I wouldn’t amount to anything and I had begun to buy into it. I’d made all kinds of assumptions about myself and my future. Until my sixth grade teacher, Mr. Christy, took me under his wing and made a point to change my perceptions of who I was and what I could do.
And there were other times, too, when I could have fallen hard; but it was the hands of my teachers who caught me. A science teacher in middle school. Both an algebra teacher and an English teacher in high school. They helped me know what success felt like and made me want more of it. They helped me think long term and find direction. And I write to each of you today because of them.
Those teachers saved me. Never doubt that. The power of a teacher is grand. But the power of a beloved and respected teacher is truly extraordinary.
And I bet that you are extraordinary.

******DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO ENTER ARE AT THE END OF THE POST…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
****THANK YOU, FELLOW CREATIVES!**** There is NO WAY I could do this without the support, kindness, and generosity of the over a hundred authors and/or illustrators who have donated.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to EACH and EVERY ONE of you!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And NOW, without further adieu…Here are the BOOKS OF 2023!! (HA! That rhymes

Rules: ***Giveaway ends on Tuesday, February 21 at 11:59PM. Winner will be announced the following day.
ENTER by Retweeting with hashtag #AuthorsLoveTeachers. Also, please comment on this blog. We’d love to hear about your experiences through all of this. Your struggles and victories. (NO pressure to be long!) PLEASE INCLUDE your Twitter handle or e-mail so I can find you if you win!
1) This is to show our appreciation for teachers and librarians, specifically. Therefore, the winner MUST have a school mailing address and be presently employed at that school.
***2) We know that teachers do not always get the appreciation they deserve. (They deserve parades and planets named after them.) This giveaway is a reminder that WE appreciate you. Yes—we write the books, but YOU are in the trenches every day. YOU get the books into the hands of children. Together, we create life-long readers.
And for that…we are most grateful.
Thank you.

I look forward to this post by Lynda and the amazingly generous kidlit community every year. I love looking at the book titles and thinking about which past students have already connected with the characters in the stories and which current students I need to pair with each title. Books and students…that’s what it’s all about! Thanks for the chance, Lynda!

Lynda-I won this giveaway a few years ago and it still lives as one of my favorite memories because you allowed me to reward my students with such wonderful books and goodies. It was one of my best years teaching and this topped it off. After that, things have not been so golden, but I live with that memory when I need a reminder of the joys in teaching. Thank you. ❤️

Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for teachers and librarians. I became a brand new librarian in January, 2023. Our current collection can be described as stagnant. The previous librarian added many digital titles but my students (grades 3,4,5) struggle to find books to read on the shelves. This giveaway would be an added bonus to my current work updating our shelves.

I was on medical leave for part of last year. When I returned during the summer, I noticed that many books were missing from my classroom library, which I have personally financed. Kids obviously felt a need for these books, but unfortunately they were the titles that most appealed to struggling readers. At school start up I appealed to my former students to hunt at home to see if any accidentally made there way there. A few were returned. I am gratified that I am turning kids into readers. I just wish there was increased funding in school districts for books.

This is so incredibly amazing! Thank you for doing this for teachers & librarians. We are trying to bring all pre-pandemic activities back and run “normal” school. Yet, I really do not think things will ever be normal again. Students, staff & families have been impacted in a variety of ways in the past few years. There are some social drifts that have been created, some social skills that need to be groomed, and relationships that continue to be nurtured. Much of this will come with commitment & time from all involved. This is why teaching oi so much more than just math, science & language arts. This is also why we love to do what we do as teachers. @mitchell_tramit

Thank you for this absolutely amazing giveaway! I have been able to implement (with admin support!) a program called “Destress for Success” to combat the excessive stress and anxiety that has become pervasive in our students’ lives over the last couple of years. I have worked so hard to cultivate this program and create a relaxing but accepting environment in my high school librarian. Recently, several students have given me feedback that they think of the library as their safe space and it’s where they like to come when they need a break from schoolwork. Additionally, many students of various ethnic backgrounds have said how much they love that our collection is varied and they can find books that represent their experience and culture. It absolutely warms my heart and tells me I know I’m in the right place, doing the right things. 🙂
